The Source Magazine

I had the pleasure of working with The Source Magazine as a daily columnist. What started as an internship writing un-authored copy for other staff writers evolved into my own column on TheSource.com, "Today in Hip Hop History." A column that, during my tenure, had the highest average traffic of all TheSource.com posts. Through my research and taste, I was able to expand beyond TIHHH to bring a new perspective and awareness to a publication surviving the digital age by pitching new article concepts, including music festival reviews, street art event coverage, film screenings, and interviews.

Today In Hip Hop History…

From 2015 to 2017, I ran the Today in Hip Hop History column on TheSource.com. I transformed what was once a 50-word shoutout of the day's historical events into fleshed-out literary time capsules that read more like an innovative history lesson rather than a blog post.

Artists and historical figures in Rap music began to reach out to me personally due to the depth of my articles. It got to the point that artists’ teams sent me gifts for my birthday each year I wrote at The Source, and would personally invite me to cover events in LA.

As a result of this impact, through my work, the column earned a sponsorship from Sol Republic headphones, something that had yet to happen for any other column in the site’s history.
